09/10 MCB Newsletter, Volume 11, November 5, 2009
… sending the newsletter out on Thursday, because it feels like today should be a Friday! … which means tomorrow, a Friday when I’m thinking Saturday, is gonna be a disappointment …
After football season is over (after tomorrow, the real Friday), there will be no more after school rehearsals this semester. After school rehearsals will resume in the Spring Semester and will likely be one or two times a week, days and times to be announced.
However, there are still some important activities coming up:
Tues, Nov 10, 6:30 pm: BBPO meeting in the band hall. This will include more information on the Honor Band auditions, other Spring Semester ensembles, and the Holiday Concert and Lasagna Dinner.
Sat. Nov 14, 9 - noon: Jazz Brunch and Silent Auction. Jazz Band members will providing some of the music during this event to raise money for the Senior’s After Prom. We don’t yet have confirmation of the times Jazz Band will be performing, but will send out a note when we do.
Wed, Nov 18: pick up Butter Braids and Cookie Dough ordered as fundraisers! These items need to stay frozen and we have no place to store them, so they need to be picked up the day they are delivered to us. More information to follow on pick-up times.
Fri, Dec 4: Holiday Concert and Lasagna Dinner. Tickets for the Lasagna Dinner will be sold after Thanksgiving.
Honor Band and associated auditions: to be in the Honor Band in the spring semester, the students need to participate in the HISD All-City auditions (Mon, Nov 23 at Waltrip), UIL Region Band auditions (Sat, Dec 12 at Seven Lakes High School) and Honor Band auditions (week of Dec 14 – 17).
All-City, Region and Honors Band all use the same audition music. Links to each instrument’s audition etudes – and associated errata – can be found on the Bellaire Band Student News page (http://bellaireband.org/studentnews.html). Some of the errata have been posted within the last week, so even if you already have the music, check the errata again! After school and lunch help sessions are available from Ms. Meng and Mr. Montalvo.
