Spring Trip News

Dear Parents and Students,

Our South Padre Island trip is finally here and it looks as though the weather will be great. We are excited that your child is attending and we will work hard to ensure a fun and safe trip for everyone. Our trip consists of 62 students, 17 chaperones, Mr. Demontray Wheat and Mr. Dave DeBlasio. We are well above the required number of chaperones and we are in good hands with Mr. Wheat and our HISD representative Mr. DeBlasio who is the associate principal. In order to be certain of a safe trip, please read all of the attachments since they provide instructions to the students about what to bring, our final itinerary with starting and ending times plus others important reminders. Emergency information is also attached for your information.

Emergency Information: We are staying at the La Quinta Inn and Suites,
7000 Padre Blvd.
South Padre Island
956-772-7000
24 hours emergency number: 1-800-987-4314

Medication- all HISD medication rules apply as to the dispensing of medication. If you anticipate the need for your child to take any medicine- prescription or over-the-counter- please send it to school on Thursday in a plastic bag with dispensing instructions. Please sign your approval and give us an emergency number in the event that we must contact you concerning the medication. Students must bring it to the band-hall on Thursday morning beginning at 7:15 am in order to give it to one of the chaperones. They cannot carry the medicine with them during the day. We are taking the health-cards that you completed for your child at the first of the year. If anything has changed, please send a note with your child on Thursday.

Boat trip- please be aware that the Eco-dolphin watching tour is a two-hour boat ride. If your child needs any medication for the boat ride please make sure that you include it in the plastic bag with any other medication.

Policies and Guidelines: All HISD policies and guidelines are in effect concerning the use of illegal substances, appropriate dress and conduct. While we do not expect any problems from our band students it is still important that you remind your child about the policies and guidelines for HISD.

Thanks again for your efforts at making this trip possible for your child. We will take lots of pictures and show them at the End of the Year Band Banquet on May 2nd!
