Message from Mr. Sullivan, 1/22/2008
First, I want to thank all of our parent volunteers who made this past weekend’s ALL –CITY BAND auditions possible by volunteering their valuable time and donated items to our Mighty Cardinal Band, Bellaire High School and the HISD. Second, we have to be so proud of all of our students who participated in two simultaneous highly competitive events. Finally, congratulations to our band family for coming together and dominating two competitions in one day. GO CARDINAL BAND!
· Our Color Guard competed in Regional’s at Cy-Springs High School in the Cy-Fair ISD, and our Guard is now qualified for the State competition in April. Congratulations Guard!
· Our Wind and Percussion students participated in the All- City Band auditions and we had 35 students earn placement in the band. And, Bellaire had the most First Chair winners in the District-wide competition. Awesome! (A new record of success for the BHS Band)
· The All-City Band Clinic and Concert will be held at Westside High School on Friday afternoon, January 25th and Saturday, January 26th, 2008.
Upcoming Events:
· Parents and students: Please don’t forget that our panoramic Marching Band photo will be taken after school on Monday, January 28th and of course participation is mandatory for all students.
· The “10:00 Lab Band” will perform during lunch several times this Spring in “Jazz in the Courtyard” as the weather permits and our “Jazz Night in New Orleans” is slated for March 7th at 6:30 PM.
· “Bellaire Idol”--TBA, Promises to be the event of the year at Bellaire High School. Details to follow.
· Our Honors Band will compete in the HISD Band contest TBA, and then in the UIL Band Concert and Sight Reading Contest on April 16th.
· The very next day, on April 17th, we leave after school on our four day Spring Trip to South Padre Island. ALL students should plan to go on this great trip! And, it’s not too late to get those deposits in quickly and make the payments needed for our students to go and enjoy a rewarding holiday as we near the end of a great year for the Mighty Cardinal Band!
Well, that’s all for now. Congratulations on a “Year of Success” in 2007 and a fast start for continued success in 2008! ---Mr. S
