Lessons

Does BHS offer private lessons for my student?
  • The BHS schedule does not include private lessons. Private lessons are an essential for a student's musical growth. You can seek a teacher on your own, or Mr. Sullivan can refer your student to an appropriate teacher. We have several teachers who come to BHS outside of normal school hours or during 7th period for our students' convenience.

Meals

Does the band provide vegetarian and/or special dietary meals?
  • At rehearsals, when the students are at the school during meal time, we make every effort to accomodate our students who desire a vegetarian or special meal. It is the student's responsibility to order their special meal accordingly when orders are taken and money is collected.

When travelling, we either stop at a restaurant or eat at a concession stand at an event. We will make an effort to know ahead of time if there is a vegetarian menu choice available, but there are no guarantees. Those students who wish to carry vegetables and fruits, etc. with them in a sack lunch may certainly do so.

Medication

Is my student allowed to carry medication while travelling?
  • No student is allowed to be in possession of medication per HISD rules including over-the-counter medication. Inhalers for asthma are the only exception. During the trip there will be a designated adult who will keep all other medication.

We use a slightly modified version of the BHS Clinic's Policy. If your child needs to take medication during our trip, or needs to have medication available "just in case," please place medication in a ziploc bag. Along with the medication, please include written instructions with the student's name, administration instructions, specific dosage, frequency allowed, and a parent/guardian signature.

About Inhalers: If possible, bring two (one for student to carry and one for the designated First Aid Chaperone in case the student loses theirs).
