Bellaire Band Parent Organization
Meeting Minutes September 14, 2010
I. Meeting called to Order at 7:00 pm.
á Board Members present: Holly Seth, Deborah Allen, Crystal Ramirez, Armando Espinoza, Susie Mauzy
á Band Director: Mike Hardy
á General Attendance: Other than board members, there were approximately a dozen members in attendance.
II. Approval of Last MeetingÕs Minutes – approved
á Introduction of Officers – since the elections took place over the summer, the new officers were introduced. It was noted that we are looking for a volunteer to be Color Guard Liaison.
III. New Business:
á BBPO by-laws are in the process of being revised. The proposed modifications will be sent to the members before next BBPO meeting so they will have a chance to make any comments; the plan is to approve the by-laws at the October BBPO meeting.
á Cool max shirts and shoe orders were placed last week; T-shirts to be ordered by the end of this week. The cool max shirts should be available to wear at next weekÕs game.
á Fundraising:
o Food sales after school in the courtyard on Tues/Thurs. 25% of the profit goes into the accounts of those selling the food. See Crystal Ramirez to volunteer.
o Butterbraids – this fundraiser will start at the Oct BBPO meeting (weÕll have samples to taste); expect delivery the week before Thanksgiving.
o Selling smoked turkeys for Thanksgiving – couldnÕt find a seller willing to do support.
o Possibly tailgate party at the school before a game (sell tickets beforehand); maybe the same middle school band night (probably Lamar game)
o MS 150 bike ride: requires LOTS of preparation; probably too late to do for this year. Need to start earlier to do for next year
o Brisket sale is another option.
o BP and DOW employees have $500 of company money to donate each year; if a parent knows any of them, see if they are willing to donate to BBPO.
á Thanksgiving Day parade: we are signed up. BBPO will feed kids breakfast beforehand
á Announcements: Mr. Hardy
o Thank you to all the volunteers for giving their time
o Band will host HISD All-City Band Auditions Monday, Nov 15.
o Need to look at finding a parking lot that can be used for marching field next year. Too many issues with wet fields and sharing the field w/ football team, etc.
o Will be using 2 smaller trucks instead of one large truck to transport equipment to games/marching contest.
o Spring Trip will be to New York. Waiting on final information for exact days and price – hopefully will have info next week.
